TEN

I realize you haven't heard from me for quite a while now. So I wanted to take the time to, firstly, wish you a beautiful new year (never too late, right?). May it be a year of hope, love, positive change and good music!

Secondly, I want you to know that I'm constantly working on new stuff - even though I don't update as often as I should. I'm also still studying, but the end of it is in sight (hoping to graduate at the end of this month with a Bachelor's degree). I can almost taste it and it tastes good, I must say!

Keep in touch.
Love.

LAND OF CONFUSION

I'm confused, very confused. I'm not going to bore you with yet another story about the death of Michael Jackson or the way he influenced me or my music. But there is one thing that I need to get off my chest.

The past couple of weeks have filled me with fascination, horror and disappointment, because this period sadly exemplified a condemnable side to the psyche of mankind: you don't know what you've got till it's gone (also sung by Joni Mitchell in 'Big Yellow Taxi', ironically enough used as a sample in Janet Jacksons 'Got 'Til It's Gone'). Suddenly people who had always spoken badly about Michael during his life, now couldn't get their ass off iTunes or YouTube - because they had just realized what a talent he was.

This pisses me off. Hasn't mankind learned absolutely nothing during the last centuries? Numerous artists have become famous and honoured after their death - Niccolò Paganini as the most early example to come in mind. Now, fortunately Michael was hugely appreciated while he was alive, but I do know for sure that iTunes did feature other artists on their Top 10 Singles and Albums before his death. I don't blame it all on the people, please do not get me wrong. Some of the haters are hypocrites indeed, others just didn't know any better or realized they made a mistake - whatever the reason may be, mainly the media should be held responsible for the negatively constructed images portraying 'Wacko Jacko'.

Yes, I believe in the neoliberalist body of thought that everyone should take responsibility for their own actions - so why is it that the media always gets exonerated of this duty? Now all of a sudden MJ footage, that has never been shown before to the mass public, keeps popping up, proving that "the child molester" in fact was a great father, who probably wouldn't hurt a flie.

It seems as if the world is not only in financial crisis, but also in moral war. In hard times we need someone to guide us, something to believe in - so most of us turn to some form of religion. But bear in mind that media is a blind religion. Don't be a follower. Ask questions. Keep your own eyes, mind and heart open. Love.

Now, just a short news flash. If you're wondering why I haven't posted the new track yet: the release has been postponed, because the label wanted to make a remix of the original track as well. But it won't take too long, that I can assure you. The gallery is finally ready and quite user friendly, if I may say so ;) I'm still working on my new tracks. At the moment I'm satisfied about the development, but I'll have to wait and see how things turn out. Hang around!

Take care,
Adriana

CHANGE

Isn't this a perfect subject title for my first update this year? Yes, I too got infected by the Obama virus - but that can only be a positive thing! With so many changes on the way (on both micro and macro level), a simple website update wasn't sufficient anymore. So I decided to just launch a whole new one! I think this design reflects much better what my music stands for. You might think I'm just looking for ways to waste my time, but I can tell you that is surely not the case ;) At the moment I'm busier than ever...

Remember I told you about how I was going to present my own radio show on the local radio focusing on youth issues? (Actually, you might have missed out on that one, because I posted it in Dutch - sorry!) Well, I did that for some time, and I enjoyed myself tremendously. But I felt like I was losing sight of the things that really mattered to me. So I moved on. Exploring new career paths I could follow and seeking ways to improve myself as an artist.

So, let me recapulate what I've really been up to lately. First, it might seem like I haven't recorded anything throughout 2008, but truth is that I have been collaborating with several DJ/producers and today I heard that one of those projects (collabo with Manifesto) is going to be released by the record label! (MY FIRST RELEASE!) I think I can objectively say that the track turned out pretty awesome. It's a deep house track with a lot of power, soul and funk to it and just really feelgood in general. In a couple of weeks I will be able to tell you more about this release, so I'll definitely keep you updated.

Second, some weeks ago I got hired as a vocalist for this kick-ass live lounge band, which exists of a DJ/Producer (well-known in the international and Amsterdam music scene - Jimmy Woo, Supperclub) and a male and female vocalist. We'll be performing solely new material that is written by the DJ himself. The songs have a downtempo/trip- hop/club and funk feel to them and the album is going to be released around May. Past weeks I've just been rehearsing like crazy for my first gig, but it's so much fun - you don't hear me complaining! Luckily it's a project that can be combined with CherryFresh, so that's pretty cool as well.

So all these developments and changes inspired me to start songwriting again and new tracks are on the way! (Now that I've announced this, there is no way back!) It might sound cliché, but recently I've discovered a strong love for jazz. I don't know where it came from. I just know it makes me happy - and isn't that what matters? Anyhow, it's certainly an influence that you'll be hearing in the new material. I predict it will be pop with a jazzy flavour and a sprinkle of funk. Now, doesn't that sound yummy?

Till soon!
Love, Adriana
